Other Water Activities
The SYC Cruisers plan several trips each year to include boaters, both power and sail, as well as landlubbers. Getaways are varied from weekend excursions to day trips, including various points of interest, other FCYC clubs & "Raft-Up" excursions.
A major benefit of boating as an SYC member is our reciprocity with the 35 other yacht clubs in the FCYC and free dockage for the first night at their excellent facilities.
Cocktail Class Wooden Boat Racing Association
The CCWBRA was founded in 2010 to encourage and
organize racing in the Cocktail Class Runabout. Based on the out-board racer
SKUA, an 8 ft. plywood skimmer designed in 1939 by Charles MacGregor, the
Cocktail Class Runabout is an economical, easily constructed and exciting
runabout. It is ideal for racing at all skill levels and ages.
Although a young powerboat racing organization, the
CCWBRA and its one-design Cocktail Class Runabout have received overwhelming
enthusiasm and support from around the world. Boats are being built and raced
in 33 states and 7 countries. We are sure they will engage all generations of
your family and friends for many years to come!
Since the 1990’s SYC has conducted the prestigious
Lipton Cup sailing regatta and has since added The CCWBRA Governor’s Cup to it
competitive racing offerings! SYC members who have built their own race boats
to CCWBRA specifications gathered for their first invitational Governor’s Cup
race at the Smyrna Yacht Club on August 23rd, 2014. This popular
event continues to grow year after year, drawing interest from CCWBRA racers
from many states to compete. SYC is looking forward to hosting the Governor’s
Cup again early 2018. Stay tuned for details!
