The Smyrna Yacht Club is sponsoring the fifth annual Lipton Cup Regatta on the weekend of April 26th through 28th. The regatta has typically enjoyed the participation of approximately 25 sail racing yachts from the Central Florida area. It is a weekend long affair with two days of ocean racing just off Ponce Inlet and with cocktail parties, a dinner dance, and an awards ceremony. In addition to the sailing yacht owners and crews, the events are attended by many yacht club members from Florida’s east coast and local dignitaries.
Smyrna Yacht Club is working to have the Lipton Cup Regatta evolve into a one of yachting's premier events on the central Florida coast. Our Lipton Cup Trophy, which was donated by Sir Thomas Lipton in 1922 to foster competitive sailing in this area, has a prestigious place in furthering competitive sail racing in Central Florida. Lipton Cup Regattas, based on trophies similar to ours, are held around the world; and these events are well know in the sailboat racing community.
We are offering area businesses an opportunity to participate with us in sponsoring this prestigious event. Your business may benefit from this opportunity for exposure to the anticipated large group of yacht club members, sailing yacht owners and crews. We are hoping that you will participate in one of the following ways:
1. Admiral level sponsors donate $500 or more or the equivalent in prizes or gratuities. Prizes should be quality merchandise, gift certificates or other items compatible with the theme of yacht racing. Gratuities can be donations such as sponsoring the cash bar or providing hors d'oeuvres at an event. All food and drink must be purchased through Smyrna Yacht Club. Admiral Sponsors will be allowed to display an advertisement banner and will be given special recognition at events. Details of the arrangements will be worked out in advance.
2. Commodore level sponsors donate $250 or more or the equivalent in prizes or gratuities similar to the Admiral level above. A placard (e.g., a tent card) for each Commodore level sponsor will be posted at events, and their participation will be announced at an appropriate time.
3. Captain level sponsors donate $100 or more. A placard for each Captain level sponsor will be posted at events, and their participation will be announced at an appropriate time.
4. Crew level sponsors donate $50 or more. Their names will be listed in the program
Checks should be made payable to Smynra Yacht Club, note Lipton Cup on your check. Any excess funds will be used to further Smyrna Yacht Club’s youth summer sailing program.
Admiral, Commodore and Captain level sponsors will be invited to attend the Friday evening party and the Awards ceremony along with the sailing skippers and crews. They may also make a reservation (space is limited) for the Saturday night dinner dance. Advertisements for each sponsor donating $100 or more will be posted on the Lipton Cup page of our Club’s web site and a direct link to the sponsor’s web site can be provided if desired. The names of all sponsors will also be listed in 2008 Lipton Cup program by order of amount donated.
