Smyrna Yacht Club made a great showing in the St. Augustine Dash sponsored by Halifax River Yacht Club and St. Augustine Yacht Club. The race is a 54 nautical mile Ocean Race at night from the sea buoy off Ponce de Leon Inlet to the sea buoy off of St. Augustine Inlet. On the evening of August 31, the SYC participants left the dock after a passing thunderstorm. Following a delay because of no wind, the boats crossed the starting line just as the sun was touching the horizon at 7:10 P.M. As the boat crews enjoyed a gorgeous sunset, the wind increased to a perfect 8 to 10 knots for a fun, down wind sleigh ride. The first boat crossed the finish line at 4:10 A.M. and the entire fleet finished before 8:00 A.M. The complete results are available on the HRYC web site, www.hryc.com.
